Last June, the Chandra X-ray Center had the privilege of welcoming Commander Jared Isaacman to our Operations Control Center (OCC). This facility is Chandra’s “mission control” where engineers and scientists communicate with the telescope and receive its invaluable data.

Isaacman and other esteemed guests, including members of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Board, were given a tour by Chandra Director Dr. Pat Slane, Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA) Director Dr. Lisa Kewley, and Chandra scientists and staff including Megan Lin, Dr. Grant Tremblay, Dr. Jonathan McDowell, Dr. Kimberly Arcand and more.

At the time of his visit, Jared Isaacman was a private citizen heavily involved in space through his Polaris Dawn mission and other exploration projects. Today, Isaacman is the current nominee to become the NASA Administrator pending Congressional approval. We are looking forward to working with him in the future as we continue to explore the Universe with Chandra.
