During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Of note this week was the announcement on Jul 9 of the Cycle 20 Peer Review recommended programs. For details see: http://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/target_lists/cycle20/index.html A Chandra photo release was issued on Jul 12 describing how astronomers combined data from Chandra and Hubble observations of the Eagle Nebula. This is the site of the spectacular star-forming region known as the Pillars of Creation. In the image, some of the X-ray sources appear to be located in the Pillars. However, an analysis of the absorption of X-rays from these sources indicates that almost all of these sources belong to the larger Eagle Nebula rather than being immersed in the Pillars. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2018/m16/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below. |
