Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 5 July 2019 9.00am EDT

The Chandra plan of observations released last week will be interrupted Sunday to incorporate observations of 4U 1820-30, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Jul 3. Scheduled observations of GCRGap4 and GCRGap5 were impacted by the replan and will be rescheduled in a future week.

A real-time procedure was executed on Jul 3 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. Another real-time procedure was executed on Jul 4 to perform a full-frame dark current readout of the Aspect Camera Assembly CCD.

A Chandra photo release was issued on Jul 3 describing Chandra observations of 5 gravitationally lensed quasars. The results showed that one of the black holes, in the lensed quasar called the "Einstein Cross," is spinning at, or almost at, the maximum rate possible. The four other black holes in the sample are spinning, on average, at about half this maximum rate. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2019/quasars/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of TW Hya which is coordinated with HST, an observation of MAXI J1348-630, which is a followup to a Target of Opportunity which was accepted on Jun 10 and is coordinated with NuStar, and observations of 4U 1820-30 which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Jul 3.
