During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to incorporate an observation of SGR 1830-0645, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Oct 10. Loads for the replanned schedule were uplinked on Oct 13. A scheduled observation of UGC01958 was impacted by the replan and will be rescheduled in a future week. Real-time procedures were executed during each ground contact to reset the DSN Outage Dead Man Load. A Chandra press release was issued on Oct 14 describing a study which identifies the reasons why some black holes produce powerful jets and others do not. This study of over 700 quasars has revealed that the corona, a region of diffuse hot gas threaded with powerful magnetic fields, may dictate whether or not a supermassive black hole generates a jet. This study combined data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, ESA's XMM-Newton, NSF's Very Large Array, and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. For details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/20_releases/press_101420.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below. |
