Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 1 February 2008 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Preparations are complete for a 30 minute duration lunar eclipse that will begin at 5:16 pm on Feb 6. Additional power loads will be applied prior to the eclipse to ensure the bus voltage remains below maximum levels when the solar arrays are reilluminated following eclipse exit (required since the arrays are more efficient when cold).

The ground system team completed the transition to a new version of the telemetry data base on Jan 25. The revision includes updates to a number of limits and accommodates telemetry changes made to add on-board monitoring of selected propulsion line and valve temperatures.

Maxim Markevitch and Alexey Vikhlinin of the Chandra X-ray Center, together with Steve Allen and Pat Henry, have jointly been awarded the 2008 Rossi Prize of the High Energy Astrophysics Division of the American Astronomical Society. The citation recognizes their pioneering work on the use of X-ray observations of clusters of galaxies as cosmological probes. We all offer Maxim and Alexey our congratulations!

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of IGR J17445-2747 coordinated with INTEGRAL.
