During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
Chandra passed through a 30 minute lunar eclipse on Feb 6 with nominal power and thermal performance. A real-time procedure was run to uplink a contingency command load to activate a set of load heaters prior to the eclipse after a review of the onboard loads indicated that the commanding had not been included as planned. A review is underway to understand why the commanding was not included and identify future corrective action. Real time procedures were executed on Feb 5 and 6 to set the short eclipse flag to "short" prior to the eclipse and then back to the default "medium" setting following the eclipse. SCS-29 was also disabled on Feb 6 following the eclipse. A real-time procedure was executed on Feb 7 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. A Chandra image release was issued on Feb 5 of the elliptical galaxy NGC 1132. The combined Chandra and Hubble image shows the hot, diffuse gas detected by Chandra and a giant foreground elliptical galaxy, plus numerous dwarf galaxies in its neighborhood, and many much more distant background galaxies detected by Hubble. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2008/ngc1132/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of M87 coordinated with HST. |
