Operations CXO Status Report

Monday 1 November 1999 9.00am EST

Over the weekend, Chandra completed GTO observations of Hydra-A and Abell 754 with ACIS-I, Trapesium with ACIS-S/HETG and passed through the radiation belts with the standard ACIS CTI measurements.

The team was notified over the weekend of a Type 2 Supernova detected in the nearby galaxy NGC 1637 (IAU Circular 7294). The event was accepted as a Target Of Opportunity under an approved proposal and work begun to insert the observation in the current load. The observation was successfully scheduled and uplinked to begin at 5.37pm today.

During the next 48 hours, Chandra will observe the GTO target E0102-72.3, the TOO NGC 1637, Pictor-A, NGC 2516, Hydra-A, RX-J0911.4+0551, IRAS 09104 and a series of calibration observations of NGC targets prior to the next radiation zone entry at 9am 11/3.

Assessment of the A-side LETG potentiometer anomaly was completed and a software patch placed in work to have the flight software read the B-side value. This patch is expected early this week. With this noted, the spacecraft systems continued to operate nominally.
