During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
An angular momentum dump was performed from the daily loads on 8 May and completed with nominal performance. Future dumps will be conducted from the loads and will not require real-time commanding. A real-time procedure was completed on May 13 to update the on-board ephemeris. A new version of the Off-Line System (OFLS) ground software was installed for operational use on May 13. Version 10.3 includes improved maneuver activity timing for the science instruments and mechanisms, better moving target processing, and incorporates a new radiation model (for later use). An image release of the active galaxy M87 was made on May 10 showing the central jet surrounded by nearby bright arcs and dark cavities in the hot atmosphere. The image combines two Chandra observations and also shows faint ring and plume structures far out from the galactic center. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2004/m87/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes two full orbit HETG observations of the active galaxy MCG-6-30-15. |
