Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 1 June 2001 9.00am EDT

During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Of note during the week was the transfer to operations of the new version of the Off Line System (9.1B) on 30 May. The transition was nominal and work has begun on scheduling the week of June 11, the first to be planned using the new software.

A press release was issued on 29 May describing the first detailed study of a class of quasar that is shrouded in clouds of gas and dust flowing outward at high velocity (millions of miles per hour). The result supports the idea that the outflow feature is common to all quasars. For full details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/01_releases/press_052901.html.

Further Chandra press releases are planned for next week in conjunction with the American Astronomical Society meeting in Pasadena, CA.

The planned observations for the coming week are shown below and include a series of monitoring observations of the nucleus of M31 coordinated with the Hubble Space Telescope.
