| During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.
Of note last week were two Chandra press releases announced at the American Astronomical Society (AAS) in Pasadena, CA. The first on Jun 5 described the discovery of new populations of suspected mid-mass black holes in several starburst galaxies, where stars form and explode at an unusually high rate. The second on Jun 6 described the discovery of a "cauldron" of 60-million-degree gas enveloping a cluster of young stars near the center of our galaxy. The planned observations for the coming week are shown below and include a series of observations of the quasar 3C273 coordinated with the Newton-XMM satellite. Real-time activities are planned on June 13-16 to insert and retract the LETG. |
