During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.
A real-time procedure was completed nominally on Jul 30 to uplink an update to the on-board gyro scale-factor and alignment matrix to OBC-B. This matches the OBC-B values to those in OBC-A, which had been updated on Jul 16. A real-time procedure was completed successfully during the perigee passage on Aug 2 to check the bright Earth limb limitation with the aspect camera. Initial assessment of the results from the Earth limb check shows consistency with prior measurements made in November 2001 and June 2002. The camera remains locked on stars to within ~4-5 degrees of the bright Earth (this compares with the 20 degree current limitation). Further measurements are planned before a constraint change can be considered. A Chandra press release was issued on July 31 describing Chandra observations that discovered part of an intergalactic web of hot gas and dark matter that contains most of the material in the universe. For more details, images, and animations, see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/02_releases/press_073102.html . The observing schedule for next week is shown below and includes a Director's discretionary time observation of V4641SGR and a target of opportunity observation of GX 1+4 coordinated with RXTE. |
