During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
A Chandra image release was issued on Nov 13 of the elliptical galaxy M84. The composite X-ray, optical (SDSS) and radio (VLA) image shows a series of nested bubbles of hot gas that provides evidence for repeated outburst from the central black hole. The observations address a number of questions including why galaxies stop growing after reaching a certain mass. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2008/m84/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of M31, M87 and NGC4051 coordinated with XMM, HST and Suzaku respectively. |
