During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
Real-time procedures were conducted on Dec 9 to reconfigure the radiation detector, EPHIN, and to load a related flight software patch to the RadMon process. The EPHIN reconfiguration will counter the effect of increasing detector deadtime from operating at elevated temperatures. The RadMon patch modifies which EPHIN coincidence channels are monitored and sets new thresholds that define a high-radiation environment. The patch includes using the HRC multi-channel plate rate as a channel for the identification of a high-radiation environment. These changes will provide Chandra with more robust radiation protection given the on-going thermal conditions. A real-time procedure was also conducted on Dec 9 to dump OBC-A memory as a follow-up to the RadMon patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory image maintained on the ground. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of M31 coordinated with XMM-Newton. |
