During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to incorporate observations of Circinus X-1, which were accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Jan 20. Planned observations that were impacted by the replan will be rescheduled in future weeks. A Chandra image release was issued on Jan 23 describing observations of one of the most powerful black holes known. The black hole is located in the center of a galaxy cluster named RX J1532.9+3021. Supersonic jets from the black hole have created large, expanding cavities in the hot gas. Energy from the cavities keeps the hot gas from cooling and forming trillions of new stars. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2014/rxj1532/ The schedule of targets for the TOO replan and next week is shown below and includes an observation of the Crab coordinated with HST. |
