During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Chandra passed through the second, third, and fourth eclipses of the season on Feb 1, 4, and 7 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. A real-time procedure was executed on Feb 5 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. A Chandra image release was issued on Feb 6 describing observations of Centaurus A (Cen A), a galaxy about 12 million light years from Earth. Cen A contains a gargantuan jet blasting away from a central supermassive black hole. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2014/cena/ Of note this week was the release on Feb 4 of CIAO 4.6.1, an update that fixes a bug in Sherpa when working in units of wavelength, and a new version of the CIAO Scripts Package, containing bug-fixes and enhancements. For details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/releasenotes/ciao_4.6.1_release.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of GRB 130427A and GRO J1744-28, which were accepted as a Targets of Opportunity on Dec 23 and Jan 31 respectively, and an observation of NGC4151 coordinated with HST. |
