Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 11 April 2014 9.00am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to incorporate an observation of GRB140331A, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Apr 3. Planned observations of IGR J15335-5420 and CXOU J122518.6+14454 were impacted by the replan and will be rescheduled in future weeks.

A real-time procedure was completed on Apr 8 to reconfigure the battery reconditioning resistors for battery 1 to adjust the battery trickle charge current. An associated flight software patch was uplinked to update the EPS fault detection logic on the Reconditioning Resistor Relay configuration. These changes are in response to expected efficiency drops due to aging of the solar arrays. Real-time procedures were executed on April 9 to dump OBC-A memory as a follow-up to the patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory image maintained on the ground. A real-time procedure was executed on Apr 9 to perform a diagnostic dump of the Control Processing Electronics (CPE).

A Chandra image release was issued on Apr 10 describing observations of the supernova remnant G352.7-0.1. Astronomers have found that G352.7-0.1 (located about 24,000 light years from Earth) is sweeping up a remarkable amount of material as it expands. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2014/g352/

Of note this week was the release on Apr 9 of CALDB 4.6.1.1, which is a patch to fix a small error in CALDB 4.6.1 wherein the HRC-I BKGRND files for Calendar Years 2012 and 2013 were indexed incorrectly and therefore selected in reverse order. For details see: http://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/caldb/downloads/Release_notes/CALDB_v4.6.1.1.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of Jupiter coordinated with XMM-Newton and an observation of the Crab coordinated with HST
